Jaclyn Brass
Project Attorney
Based in Birmingham, Jaclyn focuses on air and energy issues in Alabama. This work includes finding and taking action against air polluters, pushing for transparency at the Public Service Commission, and advocating for Alabama to pursue opportunities to address climate change.
“The people and places of the South deserve to thrive, and I have always felt a responsibility to help make that happen,” said Jaclyn. “I am thrilled and honored to be a part of an organization protecting wild places, fighting against polluters, and ensuring that communities that are disproportionately burdened have a voice. SELC is my dream job.”
When asked which SELC project makes her most proud or excited, Jaclyn is hard-pressed to select only one: “I am excited to dig in and see how we can continue to move the needle toward cleaner air for Alabamians, particularly for underserved and overburdened communities, but everything SELC has accomplished and continues to accomplish in the region is impressive.”
Jaclyn grew up in Rome, Ga., 125 miles northeast of Birmingham. “My family spent a lot of time in the Blue Ridge Mountains hiking, finding waterfalls, and generally exploring,” she said. “There is absolutely nothing better than a fall day in the mountains, but long summer days on the gulf coast beaches of Alabama are a close second.”
